One of Baron's very favorite treats is ice cream, and a sundae is the pawfect way to enjoy it. He taste tests every batch made at the Posh Pup, a job he takes very seriously (the role of Chief Tasting Officer requires a tie, he feels). We serve this very pupular patriotic treat throughout the summer.
In this version, we made a peanut butter cookie bowl and filled it with scoops of red, white and blue (strawberry, banana and blueberry - see recipe, below), topped with puppy whip, sprinkles and a bone-shaped cookie as a final flourish. Feel free to mix it up as your pup pleases!
As with all new recipes and foods, it's best to check with your vet first.
Ingredient note: be sure to choose plain, nonfat (regular or greek) yogurt to limit sugars and fat.
Always check the label to ensure that your ingredients do not contain xylitol (also known as wood sugar), which is highly toxic to dogs and often found in sugar-free foods.

Use a covered bowl if you wish to scoop out the ice cream. For individual portions, use individual containers, ice cube trays or silicone molds.
If your ice cream mixture seems too thick, add a bit of water, broth (sodium free is best), or coconut milk to the blender to thin the consistency. Add a tablespoon to start with then blend, slowly adding more if needed. If you accidentally add too much liquid, tell your dog he's getting a smoothie instead!
Any size banana will do - if it's quite small, you might want to add two (or if quite large, one may be plenty).
I make the ice cream in this order for aesthetc reasons. If some strawberry bits remain when making the blueberry ice cream, the color isn't affected.
Enjoy this ice cream with your dog - it's a refreshing treat for humans too!
